Recording Studio Jobs in Los Angeles

MIX Recording Studio is a professional recording facility at 539 S Rampart Blvd in the Westlake neighborhood of Los Angeles. We operate three rooms running Pro Tools and Logic Pro X, with Neumann U87 and TLM103 microphones, Universal Audio Apollo 8 and Apollo x8 interfaces, Empirical Labs EL8X Distressors, and monitoring through Yamaha NS10, Dynaudio LYD 8, and KRK 10S subwoofers. One of our rooms is the only Dolby Atmos mixing and mastering suite in our building, processing spatial audio for artists who have worked with MTV, Grammy-nominated projects, and major streaming releases.

We are always looking for talented people who want to work in this environment. Whether you are an experienced recording engineer, a mixing engineer building your client roster, a session musician, or a voiceover talent looking for consistent studio work, this page explains how we operate and how to apply.

How Our Engineer Model Works

Engineers at MIX are independent contractors, not employees. You bring your own clients, set your own schedule, and work independently in whichever room fits your session. We provide the space, the gear, and the acoustic environment. You keep the relationship with your clients and handle your own billing. Studio time is pass-through: your clients book the room at our published rates, and you are not paying a cut of your engineering fee to the studio.

This model works well for engineers who already have a client base or are actively building one. You get access to a professional facility without the overhead of leasing your own space, buying converters and microphones, or maintaining acoustic treatment. Several of our freelance sound engineers have been working out of MIX for years, running sessions ranging from vocal tracking and mixing to podcast production and ADR for film. The studio is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so you can schedule sessions whenever your clients need them.

Types of Roles

Recording and Mixing Engineers. You should be comfortable running Pro Tools sessions from scratch: mic placement, gain staging through the Apollo preamps, headphone mixes, and tracking vocals or instruments cleanly. Mixing engineers who work in the box with plugin suites like Waves, FabFilter Pro-Q 3, Slate Digital, and iZotope Ozone 9 will find the monitoring setup translates well to other playback systems. Experience with Dolby Atmos workflows is a plus but not required.

Session Musicians. We regularly connect clients with session players for tracking dates. Guitar, bass, keys, drums, strings, horns. If you are a working musician in LA who is comfortable reading charts or building parts from scratch in a studio setting, we want to hear from you.

Voiceover Talent. MIX handles voiceover, ADR, podcast, and ACX audiobook production. We are actively recruiting voiceover professionals for B2B projects through our voiceover talent survey. If you have a home studio for auditions but need a treated room with a Neumann U87, a properly isolated booth, and an engineer who knows punch-and-roll workflow, that is exactly what we provide.

What We Look For

Technical skill matters, but reliability matters more. Clients book sessions weeks in advance and fly in from out of state. We need people who show up on time, communicate clearly when plans change, and treat the gear with respect. The Distressors, the U87s, the Apollo converters: this equipment stays in working condition because every engineer in the building takes care of it.

We also value people who are genuinely building something. If you are an engineer growing a client base, a musician landing more session work each month, or a voice actor expanding into new genres, MIX is a place where that trajectory has room to continue. You will be working alongside other professionals who take their craft seriously.
