MIX PROSony C800G Recording Room in Los Angeles
Non-smoking · Flagship vocal room · formerly MIX II
MIX PRO is the room we put a record vocal in. A Sony C800G runs into a Neve 1073 and a Tube-Tech CL1-B, which is the signal path behind a great many of the vocals you already know, and the room around it is still large enough to track a full band. It is non-smoking, open 24 hours a day, and sits at 539 S Rampart Blvd in Westlake with parking on site.
Studio time in MIX PRO starts at $60 an hour with a three hour minimum, and you can run the session yourself or book one of our engineers with it. Longer weekday sessions and overnight blocks cost less per hour, and the full MIX PRO rate card is below.
The Chain
The tube condenser modern hip-hop and R&B vocals are cut on. It is the microphone a session in this room starts on.
The preamp that gives a vocal weight and forward presence before a single plugin is opened.
Holds a loud performance steady without flattening it, so the take still has dynamics when it reaches the mix.
Alongside the chain, MIX PRO runs everything the rest of the building runs: a Universal Audio Apollo 8/x8 interface, Neumann U87 and TLM103 microphones, an Empirical Labs EL8X Distressor, Yamaha NS10 and Dynaudio LYD 8 monitoring with a KRK 10S subwoofer, and Pro Tools, Logic Pro X and Ableton with the full plugin suite. The complete inventory is on the gear list.
The Room
MIX PRO is non-smoking. Cannabis-friendly sessions run in MIX III and MIX IV, which are the 420 friendly rooms and are priced separately. The room is set up for lead vocal work first, but it holds a full band with the Audix DP7 drum pack and a matched pair of AKG C 414s when a session calls for live tracking, and it doubles as a mix and playback room between takes.
Access is 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with parking on site at 539 S Rampart Blvd in the Westlake neighborhood of Los Angeles, a short drive from Hollywood, Downtown and Koreatown.
MIX PRO Rates
Self-directed sessions run during the day with a three hour minimum. Overnight sessions in MIX PRO always run with an engineer. Rates are for the room, and the engineer is added on top, as set out below. The exact price for your date and session length is confirmed when you book.
Who Runs the Session
You can book MIX PRO self-directed at the room rate during the day and run it yourself, or add one of our engineers to the session. An Advanced engineer is an additional $30 per hour, an Elite engineer an additional $40, and a Signature engineer an additional $60. Elite and Signature engineers carry major-label and Grammy-nominated credits, and a chain like this one rewards someone who has driven it before. Engineers are independent contractors and bill their own clients, so studio time and engineering are quoted separately.
